Abstract

«Baburnama» has already become the property of world literature; it is a brilliant example of Uzbek literature and a work that has made a great contribution to solving problems in the field of translation studies that still await resolution today, the problems related to studying its style, the history of its translations and the styles of its translators. The work is not only a treasure in itself, but its translations also serve as a source of knowledge for study with various purposes. The article presents a comparative analysis of phraseological units connected with the lexeme ko‘ngil (‘heart/mind’) used in «Baburnama» and their renderings in the Uzbek original, the Russian translation, and three English translations: by John Leyden (1826), A.S.Beveridge (1921), and W.Thackston (1996). The national-cultural characteristics of these phraseological units and the issues of their reflection in translation are highlighted and in some translation issues, the author’s own style is referenced.
